LPN – Acute Care Hospital, Casual Shifts

Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse, establishes, monitors and delivers nursing care to clients in the hospital setting as per the nursing care plan and in accordance with all required internal and external professional practice standards. As required, s/he provides support and direction to Unlicensed/Unregistered employees involved in direct client care.

Hours of Work:

  • Must be available to work a minimum of 45 hours per month which includes two (2) shifts on a weekend
  • Able to be scheduled for assignments that are considered “urgent/last minute/early morning” (e.g. called for assignments within 2 hours or less from start of shift)
  • Flexible to work all shifts (Days, Evenings and Nights), including  weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays 


  • Current LPN registration and in good standing with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Nova Scotia (CLPNNS)
  • Proof of current CPR (BCLS-HCP) for Healthcare Providers.
  • Proof of current immunization for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (MMRV), Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Hepatitis B
  • Proof of negative TB skin test within the past one (1) year or negative chest x-ray within the past five (5) years
  • Proof of N95 Mask Fit Test Certificate with a date of issue in the last two years
  • Training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Pinel Restraint and Emergency Restraint Chair for LPNs deployed to Mental Health Programs

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide client care by utilizing the skills of observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis.
  • Provide care according to the established care plan ensuring that the physical comfort and safety of clients are met. 
  • Care must be within the scope of practice of a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Perform routine nursing duties as defined by the provincial licensing body
  • Observe and document client conditions and changes following institutional standards
  • Understand and implement infection prevention practices
  • Must be willing to undergo Police Background Check upon hire
  • Maintains confidentiality of client information and care
