The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) will be assigned to various flu immunization clinics within the City of Toronto, (Scarborough, Etobicoke, North York and Central Toronto) 

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer intramuscular injections into the deltoid region of the arm (for the City of Toronto flu immunization program)
  • Ability to respond to anaphylaxis reactions 
  • Ability to follow medical directives 
  • Practices within the standards outlined by the City of Toronto and the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Standards of Nursing Practice
  • Functions under the supervision of the Supervisor on Site

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must hold an RPN or RN current CNO registration and be in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Required to obtain a minimum score of 80% on a pre-screening test related to medical directives and intramuscular injection competency for the flu immunization program 
  • Must have current experience and be proficient in giving intramuscular deltoid injections
  • Must have ability to function within a community clinic setting that involves administering flu vaccine to members of the general public who are attending a flu clinic, in a fast-paced environment
  • Previous experience in a flu immunization clinic within the past two (2) years an asset
  • Successful pre-screening candidates will be required to attend paid orientation session as required, providing they have submitted all of the required credentials and documentation as required 
  • During orientation training, will be required to demonstrate skill competency to give intramuscular deltoid injections (e.g., adults, teens, infants), including demonstrated skill competency related to flu immunization procedures and clinic procedures, as well as pass a written test and obtain a score of 80% 
  • Must have ability to travel within Toronto to public community sites (e.g., shopping malls, Civic Centres) where flu immunization clinics are held
  • Must be competent with computer data entry (e.g., accessing client information via electronic patient record).
  • Ability to accurately assess patient health status and anticipate / respond to potentially life threatening changes in patient health status.
  • Must be able to perform all of the duties associated with this position; including but not limited to pushing, pulling, lifting, assisting patients, etc.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced clinic setting and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Effective communication (verbal and written) with healthcare providers and members of the general public 
  • Multi-tasking and time management skills related to organizing and prioritizing care.
  • Punctual, reliable 
  • Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps – Proof of Completion.
  • BLS (Healthcare Provider Level) is current within the past two (2) years
  • N95 Mask Fit Test is current within the past two (2) years.
  • Must show proof of current vaccination status (e.g., measles, mumps, rubella, varicella) including proof of negative Tuberculin Skin Test within the past one (1) year or proof of negative chest x-ray within the past five (5) years.
  • Access to a car and/or reliable transportation is required

  • Available September 2017 to December 2017 Contract Length
  • Flexible to work Monday to Saturday, clinics hours vary between 8am to 8pm
  • Must be available to work a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours per week 

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Reference Check and show proof of a clear police reference check result.
