Alzheimer’s Awareness Month Supporting Dementia Care
It’s January which means its Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. This is a time to increase your understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. With over 771,000 Canadians currently living with dementia and projections showing this number nearing 1 million by 2030, the need for awareness and action is greater than ever.
Alzheimer’s disease, is one of the most common forms of dementia. It leads to cognitive decline, memory loss, and behavioural changes. Beyond those diagnosed, it profoundly affects families, caregivers, and communities. Women are disproportionately affected, making up approximately 61.8% of Canadians living with dementia.
As the prevalence of dementia rises, healthcare services must be equipped to provide specialized care. Carecor Health Services plays a crucial role in meeting these demands with our qualified professionals trained in dementia care. Our caregivers ensure individuals receive the compassionate, skilled support that they need.
How to Get Involved During Alzheimer’s Awareness Month
1. Educate Yourself and Others
Learning more about dementia helps to reduce stigma and promote empathy for those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. The Alzheimer Society of Canada provides resources to better understand the disease and how to support those affected.
2. Support Local Alzheimer Societies
Engage with local Alzheimer Society chapters through events, volunteering, or donations. These efforts directly impact individuals living with dementia and their families.
3. Prioritize Brain Health
Adopting a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise, a nutritious diet, and mental stimulation supports brain health and may lower dementia risk.
4. Advocate for Dementia-Friendly Communities
Support policies and initiatives that create accessible services and welcoming environments for those affected by dementia.
